Nokia Siemens Networks announced today that the company has completed the transaction to sell its fixed line Broadband Access business and associated professional services and network management solutions to ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN). The transaction was initially announced in December 2011.

DragonWave and Nokia Siemens Networks amend divestment agreement
Nokia Siemens Networks today announced that it has reached an amended agreement for DragonWave’s acquisition of Nokia Siemens Networks’ microwave transport business including its associated operational support system (OSS) and related support functions. As part of the amended agreement the planned closing date is June 1, 2012, subject to closing conditions.

Nokia Siemens Networks aims for record TD-LTE speeds of 1Gbps #CTIA12
Also expands TD-LTE product portfolio with 4 pipes radio and three new data devices
Nokia Siemens Networks is demonstrating its leadership in LTE-Advanced (a 4G technology) at International CTIA Wireless 2012. The company plans to demonstrate world record TD-LTE* data speeds of close to 1 Gigabits per second (Gbps) using its commercial Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station. A speed record was already achieved in a Nokia Siemens Networks US lab in April 2012 (video). Nokia Siemens Networks is also adding a host of new products to its comprehensive TD-LTE portfolio.

Nokia Siemens Networks to stay in Munich
Nokia Siemens Networks will continue to employ about 2,000 people in Munich. This confirmation comes after a significant majority of employees affected by the company’s restructuring plan agreed to join an interim employment company. The acceptance of this offer by a major proportion of affected employees was a pre-requisite for the company to stay in Munich, as outlined in an agreement struck with IG Metall last month.

Nokia Siemens Networks has appointed Ken Wirth as head of Customer Operations for North and Latin America. In this role Wirth will be responsible for the company’s sales throughout the Americas and will join the company’s Executive Board. Previously, Wirth was president of the End-to-End Networks business at Alcatel Lucent. Wirth will join the company on April 23, 2012 reporting to the chief executive officer, Rajeev Suri.

Nokia Siemens Networks and IG Metall Trade Union agree on potential restructuring plan
IG Metall and the management of Nokia Siemens Networks have agreed on a potential course of action that would see Nokia Siemens Networks remaining a major employer in Munich. The plans, proposed by IG Metall, call for approximately 2,000 jobs to remain in Munich. Under the proposal, the St.-Martin-Strasse site, which currently hosts 3,600 employees, would be closed as initially planned.

CN TETRAGEN acquires Nokia Siemens Networks’ Expedience business
CN TETRAGEN, a privately held Spanish technology holding, has acquired Nokia Siemens Networks’ proprietary, fixed-wireless broadband business, Expedience*. Under the terms of the transaction, CN TETRAGEN acquired the complete Expedience portfolio, assets, and the active customer and supplier contracts. The Expedience business is not part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile broadband portfolio based on widely adopted industry standards.
